Warren Schools promote "No guns in school"
Lincoln Middle School in Warren has said “enough is enough”. No
longer are they willing to read about kids finding guns and someone ending up
hurt or killed. Class is “in” on gun safety at Lincoln Middle School.
Instructors from Michigan2A have been conducting safety classes for the Lincoln
Middle School and the students are surprised at what they’ve learned.
These safety classes were presented to most of Lincoln's 7th and 8th graders
to provide the basis of what children should do anytime they find a firearm
or have knowledge that another student has brought a firearm to school.
The program was developed by the nationally recognized KidsSafe program and
instructs children to be safe by following four simple and easy to remember
rules: STOP, DON’T TOUCH, GET AWAY, TELL AN ADULT YOU TRUST. By following
these rules, a child removes themselves and others from possible harm.
Students were also taught that it is right for them to make the school's teachers
or administration aware that another student may have brought a firearm to school
and that doing so is not “tattling” or “ratting out”
a friend.
Michigan2A is a not-for-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to teaching
youth to “be safe” around firearms through their KidSafe and hunter
safety programs. For more information contact them at www.michigan2a.org or
