Westwood School promotes "No guns in school"
Thorne Elementary School in Dearborn Heights has said, “Enough is enough”.
No longer are they willing to read about kids finding guns and someone ending
up hurt or killed. Beginning May 19th Instructors from Michigan2A will be conducting
safety classes for the Thorne Elementary School and the students may be surprised
at what they’ll learn.
These safety classes will be presented to all of Thorne Elementary School to provide
the basis of what children should do anytime they find a firearm or have knowledge
that another student has brought a firearm to school.
The program was developed by the nationally recognized KidsSafe program and instructs
children to be safe by following four simple and easy to remember rules: STOP,
DON’T TOUCH, GET AWAY, TELL AN ADULT YOU TRUST. By following these rules,
a child removes themselves and others from possible harm.
Students will also be taught that it is right for them to make the school's teachers
or administration aware that another student may have brought a firearm to school
and that doing so is not “tattling” or “ratting out” a
friend.
Michigan2A is a not-for-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to teaching
youth to “be safe” around firearms through their KidSafe and hunter
safety programs. For more information contact them at www.michigan2a.org or call
